Munin Barkotoki was very supportive of younger writers, poets, critics and playwrights and wrote postcards by the dozen encouraging them in their efforts. In order to honour that memory, the Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust has instituted an annual Munin Barkotoki Award from 1995 (renamed Munin Barkotoki Literary Award from 2015) for promising young writers writing in Assamese. So far more than 50 writers have received this award.
The award comprises a cash award of Rs. 50,000 (from 2015) besides a citation. Only writers below the age of forty are eligible for consideration for the award. An up-to-date list of award winners can be found here.
After an uninterrupted run of 30 years from 1995 to 2024, the Trust has decided to discontinue the annual award and to replace it with the Munin Barkotoki Writing Fellowships.
To mark Munin Barkotoki's birth centenary and the 20th anniversary of the award, a book titled Munin Barkotoki Bota: Grantha aru Prapaksakal about the Munin Barkotoki Awardees (1995-2014) and their award-winning books, edited by Lutfa Hanum Selima Begum and Kushal Dutta was published by the Trust in 2015.
