The Award

Munin Barkotoki was very supportive of younger writers, poets, critics and playwrights and wrote postcards by the dozen encouraging them in their efforts. In order to honour that memory, the Munin Barkotoki Memorial Trust has instituted an annual Munin Barkotoki Award from 1995 (renamed Munin Barkotoki Literary Award from 2015) for promising young writers writing in Assamese. So far more than 35 writers have received this award.

The award comprises a cash award of Rs. 50,000 (from 2015) besides a citation. Only writers below the age of forty are eligible for consideration for the award. An up-to-date list of award winners can be found here. To see the eligibility rules and to learn more about the process of submission and selection click here.
